About Us
Talokan means: "The essence of the earth" or "the origin of all things"
Our journey begins with a Maya artisan from Mérida, Yucatán, a woman shaped by life’s challenges yet driven by an unwavering passion for art.
As a single mother, she spent decades working grueling jobs, putting aside her own dreams. But when her son no longer depended on her, she made a bold decision—to leave everything behind and embark on a journey of self-discovery through art.
Team
Her path led her across Mexico’s most sacred artistic regions, beginning in Nayarit and Jalisco, the heartlands of Wixárika (Huichol) beadwork. She lived among indigenous artisan communities, immersing herself in their rituals, sacred techniques, and ancestral wisdom. What started as a journey became a bond of family, love, and artistic devotion, and many of those artisans are now part of the Talokan family.
Team
From there, she traveled to Oaxaca and San Martín Tilcajete, where for two years she worked side by side with master alebrije artisans, learning not just their techniques but their stories, traditions, and the spirit embedded in each piece. These friendships, built over years of shared craft and passion, became lifelong ties—a fusion of cultures, artistry, and deep mutual respect.
Now, her journey has brought her back to Yucatán, where she seeks to honor her roots by collaborating with Maya artisans and master carpenters.
